About Nick Vandervoort
Professionally I am currently a Design Engineer with Honda Development and Manufacturing of America near Columbus Ohio. I work in the battery system design department to help with new model development. Outside of this career I practice a deep passion for just about anything with an engine or motor on it. I’ve restored two classic muscle cars, and am currently working on my biggest project yet: building and racing a GT40. My love for building things and tinkering with mechanical systems is what got me in to engineering, and I think is what pushes me everyday to excel at my work. The automotive industry is changing rapidly, and it’s so exciting to be able to be a part of it.
Listed skills include Matlab, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Solidworks, and 15 others.

Active Aerodynamics Wing Design
A dream of mine is to design and build my own aluminum and carbon fiber rear wing for my Dodge Challenger Project. I had the idea in the spring of 2016 in a Machine Design class. This concept can be seen today on many high end cars like the McLaren P1. My wing would either sit flush with the trunk lid hidden or with the push of a button pop out and then angle forward. I have utilized SolidWorks and a lot of hand measurement and testing to make the latest model. I have attached photos of the CAD files for that is as far as I have progressed.
Cad Designs
In my own time I have used SolidWorks to aid in customizing my own project cars. I am attaching screenshots of current drawings I have of my custom dash insert, ignition panel, and exterior trim moldings. The dash insert and switch panel have been completed and those photos can be found under the experience "Dodge Challenger Project". All of these computer designs I translated onto the real materials using nothing more than a little ruler, pencils, and patience.
Dodge Challenger Project
In the Winter of 2013 I began the restoration of a 1973 Dodge Challenger with a 318 cubic inch V-8 904 automatic. During the Summer of 2017 I completed a full restoration of frame and body. Changes were made such as frame strengthening, engine bay changes for a modern engine, floor design to allow for a 5-speed manual, exterior door handle delete, and more. Hotchkis racing suspension and Wilwood disc brakes were installed along with a modified 2014 6.4L Hemi stroker engine and new 5-speed Tremec manual transmission. Just before I had to leave to start working at BorgWarner I used SolidWorks to help me layout a base frame for a brand new custom dash insert and ignition switch panel. Just before November of 2017 I completed the work on the custom dash by designing my own ignition switch panel, gauge layout, A/C control layout, and other components. I then wrapped everything on the dash with vinyl color to me own taste. I hope to spend time during holiday breaks this winter to get the body closer to paint so that final assembly can begin in the summer of 2018.
Dodge Dart Project
In the winter of 2010 I began the restoration of a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger 225 cubic inch 6-cylinder 3 speed automatic. I taught myself to MIG weld, fabricate replacement sheet metal, repair areas consumed of rust, fill and sand body filler, assemble and disassemble every major system including suspension and drivetrain, and spray, sand, and polish basecoat and clearcoat paint.I completed this project in the Spring of 2012 and have driven and maintained vehicle ever since. I attached a couple pictures of this experience.
