I am a Partner in our Guildford office and been advising trustee and company boards on a wide range of actuarial and pensions consulting issues for over 15 years. I am a qualified actuary and hold a number of Scheme Actuary appointments.With regard to my Scheme Actuary work, I work closely with my trustees to not only support them in the day to day running of their scheme but also to focus on the longer term. I believe it is important for trustees, working in close collaboration with the sponsor, to have clear view of their longer term objective. Whether this is buyout, self sufficiency or another less de-risked position, I support my trustees in understanding the risks they face, ensuring they are comfortable with that risk (given the strength of covenant support) and then putting in place a pragmatic, yet effective, monitoring system to ensure the risks are managed and objectives can be met. For those more mature schemes, this has included successfully guiding them through to full funding and supporting them through the significant project of buyout with an insurance company. Additionally, as the pension landscape has changed, there has been a need for sponsors to think again around the future pension provision for their employees. I have supported sponsors on a wide spectrum of solutions, from redesigning their defined benefit scheme for a lower risk, lower cost solution, to closing the scheme altogether and then working with all parties to set up an alternative arrangement. I enjoy building strong relationships with my clients and ensuring the service they receive is always of the highest quality and that the services provided focus on the best outcomes for them and their members.
