I am a Temporary Detective Sergeant at Dorset Police managing the Safeguarding Hub which is responsible for investigating and disrupting exploitation of children and vulnerable adults, modern slavery/human trafficking and organised immigration crime.I am in my 10th year of policing, having served in Gloucestershire and Dorset. As a tenacious and professional investigator, I have led serious and complex cases, demonstrating an ability to analyse multiple sources of information meticulously, act decisively under pressure and deliver high volumes of work to tight deadlines without compromising on quality. Much of my success can be attributed to effective communication, thorough skilled interviewing, strong report writing and an ability to present challenging messages to a diverse range of audiences. My experience and training have equipped me with robust investigative skills, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to upholding integrity and ethical standards. My ethos centres around doing what is right, striving for better, and putting the victims at the heart of everything I do.Last year, I took the national sergeant’s exam, passing with an ‘exceptional’ grade in the top 6% of the country, and was promoted into in an acting Detective Sergeant post. I now manage a team of detectives, driving investigations and striving for better outcomes for victims. In this role, I have built positive working relationships with stakeholders and frequently receive recognition from senior officers for my leadership, dedication and positive results in several serious and high-profile cases. In addition to my duties, I have also volunteered as a tutor. As a compassionate mentor, I’ve enjoyed sharing the benefit of my experience with junior detectives and taken pride in helping them reach their full potential, shaping the future of our investigations team.Prior to my time in law enforcement, I spent 11 years in the regulated financial services sector, predominantly in compliance and audit roles, investigating complaints, and achieving several recognised industry qualifications along the way. In the main, I was attracted to roles where my focus was on the customer, ensuring they received the best advice and service and were treated fairly; an ethos I carried forward into my public service.
