Team was responsible for backend API services, automated image processing supporting sla-bound workflows and full stack applications for company flight operations. The team was cross-functional and comprised of 9 senior/mid-level software engineers, computer vision engineers, and DevOps engineers.Responsibilities included low latency, highly scalable ETL data pipelines (radiometric & geometric calibration, mosaicking, thermal image processing etc), performant internally & externally facing APIs (Django & Node), full stack development for the central flight scheduling application, and maintaining cloud infrastructure for all company resources (AWS/Ansible).

Engineering manager for a team of 5 engineers developing data products using deep learning approaches to extract analytics from Planet Imagery. Responsibilities of the role included development of object localization deep learning models, development of training/validation data pipelines, cross functional team management, ETL of third party data sources, custom app development, and coaching/hiring/agile management.

Managed a team of 5 software engineers responsible for developing Planet's Analytic and Surface Reflectance Image Products used widely across Agriculture, Scientific, and Government market segments. This included sensor characterization and in-orbit radiometric calibration of the Planet Dove Constellation (>150 satellites). Responsibilities included developing novel satellite sensor calibration methods, data pipeline integration, development of internal tools, agile management, and cross-team coordination from on-orbit satellite operations through imaging pipeline and product teams. Maintained an active engineering role as an individual contributor using a range of Python libraries (numpy, scipy, etc.).

(UrbanFootprint spun out of Calthorpe Assoicates as a startup) Manager for 5 data engineers. The team was responsible for the development of land use, transportation, and derived data products. The role included wearing many hats. From data model design & implementation, ETL pipeline development, data normalization, agile management, research and development, and full stack software engineering. As one of two founding engineers, built many core features of Urbanfootprint utilizing Django, Python, and JavaScript/SproutCore

Carried out a refuge-wide habitat/land cover field survey of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. - Using the collected field survey data, created a habitat/land cover map of the refuge using a mix of satellite image processing, object classification methods, and manual heads-up digitizing.- Supported bathymetric surveying of Malheur Lake to help address ongoing invasive species management and salmon conservation efforts for the Columbia River. - Supported the biology/ecology staff at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge with GIS resources and database management.

Summer caretaker for the historic lighthouse keepers house on Ram Island off of Boothbay Harbor, Maine

Much of my time was working as the counterpart to the Director of the National Beekeepers Association of The Gambia (West Africa). We created and managed a nationwide training program for rural beekeepers and helped start a fair trade modeled honey business to support higher wholesale prices for honey & wax.I also collaborated with farmers in small villages in rural Gambia to implement improved agriculture and forestry techniques.

Worked as part of the crew taking passengers on 4 and 6 day cruises of the Maine Coast on the historic Schooner American Eagle.
