I’m an advanced paramedic who lives in the Lake District and have specialised in delivering remote area healthcare for over 22 years. I’ve worked across the world including Namibia, Mongolia, Patagonia, Norway, Switzerland and Dominica covering extreme sport events and on location filming. I’ve been a member of a mountain rescue team spanning over two decades and I’m currently with a central Lakes team. I also fulfil a major incident tactical/strategic command role and I’m the regional Medical Officer for LDSAMRA. I have previously worked on a helicopter service, providing a repatriation role to offshore oil rig workers exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19. I’m currently working as a Lecturer in Mountain Medicine for the University of Central Lancashire and actively involved in mountain medicine research. I am privileged to have edited the Remote Area Trauma Care chapter for the NAEMT’s Prehospital Trauma Life Support UK textbook on two editions. I’ve also co-authored the Rural Healthcare textbook. I hold an MSc in Emergency and Resuscitation Medicine as well as PGCert in Academic Practice (FHEA). I’m currently working towards the Fellowship of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. In my spare time I’m a private pilot and enjoy climbing, mountaineering, cycling and running both at home and abroad.
