Nick B. Email and Phone Number
I get questions all the time. One question about me that I get is usually formed along the lines thus: "you have the patience of a saint. Have you ever thought about being a teacher?"What do these people see that prompts this? Perhaps it's:- Someone who likes helping others out. I'll chip in, whether it's helping a friend move, or just cleaning up after a holiday party. It's why I volunteered at my local library for several months before they hired me on and helped me turn a hobby into a career.- Someone who enjoys the process of bridging an information gap. It can be with a bit of trivia or a deep dive into a broader question, I enjoy the process of discovery and sharing the results. It's why I spend some of my free time in certain anonymous online communities helping answer questions people have.- Someone with a great sense of humor. Whether it's jokes, humorous anecdotes or diffusing a tense situation, humor can be a great equalizer, which I find is essential to helping develop better performing teams and cultivating a positive workplace culture.- Someone who likes solving problems. It's why I volunteered to be on the PALSPlus Technical Services Committee, successfully argued for backup training for key positions at Capitol Centre Market, and took it upon myself to go forth and get a Masters of Information degree from Rutgers University.- Someone who is a good listener. Listening helps me identify root issues, understand different perspectives, and develop better personal and professional relationships with the people I encounter.- Someone who encourages others to achieve. I believe that when one person in a community achieves a greater success, that success reflects back on the community as a whole, so I encourage others when and where I can.- Someone with management experience. Sure, I was a manager in customer service for a few years or so and have taken several courses in management and leadership in graduate school. It's important to know how others are able help, and to put them into the best places to accomplish that goal. So, look, I get it: it makes sense, especially when you get to know me well. Sure, I've thought about being a teacher, but don't you agree that I'd make a better librarian instead?
