I create and deliver bespoke GIS training programmes to a wide variety of clients including University of Liverpool, ONS, UCL, University of Southampton and American University of Beirut, Lebanon. I work with the students or organisation to provide a GIS training programme that meets their requirements, covering a range of materials from introductory to advanced.

As Cartographic Editor, my job is to make sure that the maps and illustrations in the Cartography and Geographic Information Science journal are as good as they can me. I work with authors after their article is accepted to ensure their graphics look their best in their journal article in print and online.

I work with colleagues at UCL on a variety of different projects, including training and outreach.

I share my academic and industry experience with Master's degree students on MSc Geospatial Analysis and MSc GIS, teaching them how to use GIS and how to get the most from GIS for their future careers. I also am a personal tutor, ensuring the students get the most from their time at UCL.

I work on a freelance basis developing and delivering a variety of short courses (1 day – 2 weeks) on GIS and spatial data literacy. I have led a number of collaborations to develop new material and courses. The experience of my students who attend the course is of prime importance, and I have developed a number of techniques to maximize the value they receive from the course, both in terms of the theoretical knowledge and the practical knowledge.

I work as a GIS analyst, cartographic designer and trainer on a wide variety of different projects with client facing roles. My analyst role includes designing and implementing the best way of communicating analysis output to the client as well as understanding their needs. I also design and lead a variety of GIS training courses, for academics, public sector and commercial organisations.

As a University Teacher I coordinate a second year module on GIS, using R. I improved and adapted a number of the existing practical sessions based on feedback from last year and I rewrote much of the lecture material to suit my teaching style and to place more emphasis on engaging the students during the lecture. I also contributed sections on education and on the digital divide to a module on understanding social exclusion and provided supervision support to undergraduate dissertation students.

My research covers a variety of different analytical GIS applications linking humans and the environment in many different ways, including sonification, epidemiology and transport. At the University of Liverpool I worked with records of home to school travel from the school census, where I helped develop the techniques that allowed routes and CO2 emissions to be calculated for each pupil’s journey from home to school across for a data set of 7.5 million records. I also worked with UK Census data (1971 - 2011) developing and implementing a method to perform small area comparisons for the PopChange project.

Currently working on the MAUP (Modifiable Areal Unit Problem) and how it may impact the March of Atopy as well as developing methods for working with complex small area data, such as GP level data.
