Nick is a technnical director and virtual production specialist based in Bristol. His skillset covers traditional broadcast and screen system engineering, camera tracking and development of software and tools to drive screen content.More recently Nick has specialised in realtime systems and design, and virtual production techniques. Using cutting edge tools such as Unreal Engine and Stype's Redspy camera tracking system, Nick has pioneered virtual production workflows that have been used from small live stream productions to large budget broadcasts. He has been involved in camera tracking and VP workflows used in TV productions including the Cube and the Gorillaz Song Machine Live.Nick works as TD for Distortion, using his experience with tools such as Touchdesigner, Unreal and Stage Precision to ensure we remain at the cutting edge of virtual production technology.Having traditionally worked as a specialist in live event technology, he developed custom interactive systems and large-scale video installations. Projects have included playback and systems for Commonwealth Games, projection installations across Glastonbury Festival.His passion for creative engineering and design saw him gain a distinction in a Design MA, focussing on creating interactive lighting systems that adjusted colour temperature dependent on geolocation and the sun’s inclination. This was followed by a period teaching interactive technology to students.Using a variety of creative coding toolsets Nick has built interactive installations for Dyson, Chase Bank and Mitsubishi.
