I am the assistant director at the Carter Lake Public Library, a small Iowa town surrounded by Nebraska, and in close proximity to Omaha and Council Bluffs. I assist our patrons in various forms: from tech help, to book suggestions, or just an ear to listen, we do a little of everything at our small library. I also assist my director and our youth librarian in various tasks, purchases, and programming, as well as create my own programming. We are a small but mighty team who help eachother and our unique community in any way we can.I was the librarian at Omaha Correctional Center, providing library services to incarcerated individuals such as interlibrary loans, book loans, educational information and more. The library space provides a law library with legal aides, as well as legal copies and typewriters available. I coordinated all aspects of the library at OCC and worked with my institution to create a safe space for individual learning and growth.I was the Adult Services Librarian at Wayne Public Library in Wayne, Nebraska for over three years, where I coordinated adult programming, assisted with youth programming, and created advertisements, videos, graphics, and various social media posts for the library. I was also a part of the adjunct faculty at Wayne State College, teaching editing for publication classes for about three years as well.I create artwork and zines in my spare time, exhibiting this work at zine fests annually and at Omaha Oddities and Art Expo. I am a member of the 49th Community Catalyst cohort, funded by the Sherwood Foundation. I have had artwork exhibited at the Norfolk Arts Center, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, the Blue Cat Gallery and Studio, and Noyes Art Gallery.Artist Statement:My focus as an artist has been exploring concepts about mental states and emotion, and the very human ability to disconnect from these thoughts and feelings whether intentional or otherwise. My pieces are vulnerable in a way I choose not to be, to both nature and the influence of others. They cannot speak up for themselves, lie, or run away from scrutiny, and in turn, are able to give me a sense of what it's like to exist without the invisible boundary of what types of behavior are socially acceptable. Essentially emotional dumping grounds, my sculptures, paintings, photographs, and zines evolve to represent memories I can’t let go of and people I can’t seem to forget about.
