The D-REC Initiative is creating a new global mechanism for the certification of distributed renewable energy (DRE). The D-REC Initiative is a not-for-profit, multi-stakeholder, industry-led initiative to create a global market for distributed renewable energy. We are designing, delivering and demonstrating new ways to certify and value distributed renewable electricity attributes through the creation of a new, internationally recognized market instrument called the D-REC (Distributed Renewable Energy Certificate).As Finance Lead, I am leading the team that leverages D-RECs to crowd in public and private sector finance into the distributed renewables space. Building off of proven structures in the utility scale renewables space, we are putting the pieces in place to take advantage of the trillion dollar opportunity to invest in renewable energy.

Led the development of emerging financial products for the renewables sector; building off Clir's industry leading data & in house analytics.

Zenon Energy is a commercial advisory firm that works across the energy and natural resource sectors. Focus areas include:-Project evaluation and business planning-Renewables-Electricity economics-Policy & Regulation-Fundraising/corporate structuring-Power purchase agreements-First Nations initiatives-Transmisison planning-Public sector education

-Responsible for all regulatory aspects of wind development business.-Primarily focused on UK but also involved with other renewables markets (Germany, Chile, South Africa, Canada, USA).-Establish the company positions on regulatory developments (e.g. EMR)-Provide input to corporate finance team concerning financial support mechanisms and trading arrangements.-Respond to all consultations from relevant authorities.-Liaise with government and regulators regarding ongoing policy development. -Collaborate with my counterparts at other companies and organizations to form industry consensus and affect positive change in the industry.-Provide assessment of regulatory landscape for potential new markets.

-Worked within a small team to secure two major offshore wind leasing concessions from the UK government.

Worked as an economist within the Tax Policy Branch focusing on GST &VAT.Key details include:-Provided quantitative analysis for policy changes regarding sales tax as it applies to financial services and financial instruments.-Developed various environmental tax measures such as a carbon tax, and fuel taxes.-Analyzed variability of VAT revenue and its affect on a governments “tax portfolio”. -Maintained relationships with the Canada Revenue Agency, other government departments, private sector tax professionals, & my counterparts in other jurisdictions.-Ensured Canada’s compliance with international agreements such as NAFTA and WTO.
