About Nick Floyd

With over 20 years of experience as a software engineer, I am driven by the challenge of building things and solving problems with others and a keyboard. I am currently a staff software engineer at GitHub, where I co-own and maintain the open source Octokit SDKs and the GitHub Terraform provider. These projects enable millions of applications to interact with GitHub's APIs using various languages and platforms.I have a strong passion and expertise in all things API, from REST and GraphQL to Twirp and OpenAPI. I also enjoy working with artificial intelligence and generative software to create innovative and scalable solutions. As a mentor, coach, and board member, I love to share my knowledge and skills with the engineering community and learn from the incredible people I meet along the way. My ultimate goal is to write exciting and functional software that people enjoy using and that makes a positive impact on the world.

  • New Relic, Inc.
    Agent Engineer
New Relic, Inc. Apr 2012 - Jun 2017
    San Francisco, Ca, Us
I was responsible for the software that gives developers x-ray vision into what their applications and systems are doing. From concept to creation, my team built tools that help users have healthy clouds and happy applications. My daily goal was to make a developer's job of developing, releasing and maintaining code a much more seamless and clear task.Wrote software for software. It helped developers not only see problems in their code and systems but helps them get "better" as developers. The software I wrote allowed devs to think of performance as a feature rather than a "nice to have." The code I created at New Relic opens the gate to understanding what is actually happening with developer software everywhere, whether it is in production or on our local dev boxes. I considered the opportunity to create something that helps us all make better software is a great privilege.
