Using Snap's infrastructure and data to provide location-based marketing analytics for Placed and Snap's customers, including most of the Fortune 500 with physical locations.Managed the product team at Placed, working with engineering and data science teams to deliver regular reporting and data services to publisher, agency and advertiser customers.

Acquired by Snap, 2017Built out the product team, including product/program/project management and UI/UX and visual design functions. Supported sales and account management with client on-site visits. Built out process of taking custom client analysis projects into production features. Supported engineering team from single team of devs to highly structured team of back-end, front-end, QA and client-success engineers. Helped maintain profitability while growing revenue yearly until/through acquisition.

Built out the dev team, including culture of good engineering practices—testing/continuous integration, code reviews, weekly releases, DevOps on-call schedule—and good hiring practices. Helped lay technical groundwork for, and managed dev owners of, multiple systems including consumer-facing mobile apps, POI/Geo databases, large-scale big data machine learning pipelines, and user-interactive analytics systems. Maintained profitability in the face of aggressive revenue growth.

Part of the initial team of 4 people. Built out first big data/ML pipeline, POI/Geo database, public facing API and mobile SDK.

Connect with many 3rd party data sources, federate information, process and store millions of documents a day, hand-off to in-house processes, deliver out to mobile, web and other 3rd party applications.

Acquired by J2 Global, 2021I came on board in January of 2008 as one of two engineers hired with a first and only round of VC investment to build a large scale, distributed system to crawl and process between 200 and 300 TB of web data every month using Amazon Web Services. Since that time our revenues have doubled twice, our customer base has more than doubled, and we've been profitable since early 2009 (see this post: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/seomozs-venture-capital-process).In 2009 Sarah Bird, our COO, and I began building a data services business (a REST/JSON-based API) which has grown as well. We now have dozens of partners both large and small. Our API serves over 4 million data requests every day, most of that to external partners. As well as spreading our metrics, a paid version of our API represents a growing revenue source. Supervised a team of student managers managing a team of over 70 student technical support staff. Designed and implemented a web-based system to manage staff records, communications, equipment, work schedules, and support appointments. Managed team of student developers to implement additional functionality.
