Consultancy and support for magnetic testing of Explosive Ordinance Disposal diving equipment

Project manager and lead engineer for Underwater Laser Cutting, a joint development project between Claxton Engineering and the University of Aberdeen, supported by the Net Zero Technology Centre.

Dual role:Project management of major engineering Research and Development Projects with Proserv's Field Technology Services Division.Global Engineering Support to the various engineering locations in the following areas: - Engineering Learning and Development including I Mech E MPDS - Product Certification included DNV & CE Directives - PED, ATEX, Machinery, PPE etc - Manage Engineering Library and Standards Library - Pressure systems safety - AX Dynamics ERP System and integration with Power BI and PDM

Responsible for delivering the continuous improvement of the processes and standards for the engineering function globally. Provide direction and support to the global engineering team to enable maximum potential efficiency from engineering process.- Global support for Engineering & Product Creation for AX Dynamics 2012- Development of Engineering processes for ERP (AX Dynamics) including global harmonisation- Introduction of AX Quality module- Support for new companies integrating into AX- Provision of training, guidance and procedures to AX users- Integration of PDM and ERP- Improving ERP data quality/integrity- Development of global pressure safety standards and harmonised test barrier/cell design

- Test and certification of equipment.- Providing technical standards, risk assessment and CE marking advice and expertise to engineering.- Conducting asset review of equipment, upgrading and documenting where necessary.- Preparing functional & certification specifications for purchased assets, assisting suppliers and reviewing new equipment and documentation when received.- Managing / designing urgent design/development projects as required, including: Design of Electronic control systems for subsea tooling Hose spoolers Hydraulic power packs HP jetting units Control containers Subsea tooling hydraulic control systems Diamond wire saws Subsea deployment baskets Subsea dredging tools

Responsible for CE Marking of products (PPE, PED, MDD, EMC etc) and upgrading of test laboratories within the company:- Responsible for Magnetic Range for testing of diving equipment. Upgraded range to meet MOD requirements.- Responsible for Oxygen Cleaning - set up from scratch only Oxygen Cleaning Facility approved by US Navy outside the USA and in conjunction with colleague obtained DNV approval for Oxygen cleaning process using novel verification technique. Prepared draft for IMCA guidance document on Oxygen Cleaning.- Sat on PH4/7 British standard committee for Diving Apparatus.- Extensive R&D experience particularly on rebreathers including testing within the Divex Life Support Laboratory. Set up test systems using Labview/National Instruments hardware and conducted testing including class testing of Hyperbaric Lifeboats.- Upgraded Life Support Laboratory for rebreather testing.

Responsible for all respiratory product development and all technical aspects relating to the respirator side of the business. As well as developing new products, this involved CE certification of new products via various approval bodies to the PPE and related directives. Additional responsibilities included:- Training of QA staff in Goods Inwards, Finished Goods and product testing.- Training and supporting the shop floor in manufacturing and testing techniques and procedures. - Providing backup technical sales support for the sales and marketing departments. - Set up Respiratory Test Laboratory for the testing of products (supporting kitemarking). Additional roles:- Chaired the Respirator Committee of the Personal Safety Equipment Manufacturers Association.- Sat on the various BSI PH/4 committees for writing European / International Standards for respirators, including the drafting group for BS 8468 CBRN protection standards. - Advising both HSE and DTI on various issues involving UK and European legislation (due to PSMA position) and directives as well as liasing with notified bodies.

Research and Development Manager at Martindale Protection Ltd. Sited in North West London Martindale Protection manufactured industrial safety equipment, particularly respiratory protection, and electrical test equipment. Initially responsible for upgrading existing products to meet new European standards and to obtain CE approval, I was subsequently responsible for product research and development, product design, and any technical aspects relating to the products. I was heavily involved in the setting up of a NAMAS (UKAS) accredited laboratory for the testing of Respiratory Protective Products for which I was the 'Head of Laboratory' and Quality Manager. The laboratory conducted internal R & D testing, particularly for powered respiratory products as well as internal and external NAMAS/UKAS testing.Sat on I.L.E.E. - a European committee for the harmonisation of laboratory test methods throughout Europe.Developed a number of specialist systems such as a Fresh Air Breathing system for British gas and a nuclear specification powered hood system for the Atomic Weapons Establishment. Managed the development of a number of major new high budget projects such as the Magnum Powered Respirator and the Kombat Half Masks. I was also active in gaining ISO-9001 for management of product design using a computer database system developed by myself.I also managed the installation of a new PC network system to replace the company's existing mainframe system and was the system administrator for the Novel Network system.
