Heroes Can is a Non-Profit Start-up company who aims to assist those who are down on their luck, in need of something good in their life, or currently struggling without a stable home. Heroes Can mission is to partner with local recycling redemption centers in highly concentrated areas of poverty and homelessness, by compensating the needy with donated necessities and hygienic products for their recyclable materials.Heroes Can was honored to be the Winner of the Spring 2017 Iowa Startup Games. This is a competition hosted by The University of Iowa John PappaJohn Entrepreneurial Center in which students break into teams and compete to build a business in one weekend.

Throughout the summer I performed multiple job duties and tasks with both a sales team and an intern team. From day to day, I worked alongside internal and external wholesalers in order to meet projected sales goals for various geographical regions. We also worked on sales strategies, pitch and presentation skills, and how to enhance customer satisfaction and customer acquisition on a weekly basis. As part of an intern project, I assisted in directing and presenting a commercial for the company.

I started out at the Sheraton Hotel as a regular Bellman who performed all the day to day duties and tasks expected of the Bell Staff. These included: valet parking, shuttle service chauffeur, luggage assistance, local knowledge or concierge service, room deliveries, errands for various departments in the hotel, and anything else to help make a guests stay as enjoyable and satisfactory as possible.After a year, I was promoted to the position "Assistant Bell Captain" where I continued to carry out day to day work tasks, while also assisting, managing, and training the rest of the Bell Staff. More responsibilities that came with the promotion included the record keeping of monetary books pertaining to the company vehicle, hotel amenities, cash paying guests, and rewards programs. Prior to my promotion, the Bell Staff department suffered a huge turnover. I ultimately helped with the hiring of seven new Bellman, and then helped train these employees as the new Bell Staff.

In order to expand my network and become involved within the University of Iowa's campus life, I joined the Intramural Services as both a referee and as a player in the sports Basketball and Football. As a referee, I monitored the competition and sportsmanship between opposing teams, while also enforcing the rules and regulations expected of participants. Additionally, I learned more about the sporting industry in general, and built my network by connecting with peers and meeting others who shared similar interests to mine.

Coldwater Creek was liquidating this location during the summer following my freshman year of college. My family and I were new to the Eden Prairie, Minnesota area which gave me the desire to land a summer job in order to keep busy. I initially took a stock room job, and no less than a month later the store manager had me walking the sales floor and making transactions as a sales representative. I established new customer relationships daily in order to distribute storewide products, and became one of the most productive sales representatives of the summer.

This was my first real job at the age of 15. It taught me how to be responsible with my own paycheck, showed me the true value of hard work, and how to be a young professional. I still keep in touch with the owner to this day, and he will forever be one of my dearest and most favorite leaders.Twelve's challenged me to work hard every single day as the Dishwasher and Prep Chef. I owe my work ethic to this first position I ever held.
