Key Achievements• Led a fresh and proactive approach to media engagement resulting in a considerable leap in positive coverage in my first three months. (AWE had not enjoyed positive coverage at 60% since the 1990s.)• Handled all reactive responses to media and external stakeholders working closely with, and according to guidance from the Ministry of Defence during periods of significant pressure including anti-nuclear protests.• Delivered effective and damage limiting crisis communications during a period of immense reputational vulnerability following a central government announcement on the storing of nuclear waste from decommissioned submarines. I acted as spokesperson in live broadcast environments to national and local audiences.• Repositioned AWE in the regional press as the largest local employer and home to some of the most talented scientists in the world using key messaging and by selling in magazine style features on some of the most interesting employees to local papers.• Managed all on site media visits in accordance with strict security restrictions and systems, and ensured all footage was shot appropriately and cleared before being released.• Persuaded the Senior Leadership Team to undertake media training • Helped initiate a cultural change within the organisation recognising the need (when appropriate) for greater transparency.• Renegotiated the media monitoring contract and led the tender process. • Worked across teams to develop a new horizon scanning system on Share Point which led to improved media planning and more effective press handling.
