The Beat-the-News projects aims to deliver forecasts of social unrest, election results and disease outbreaks using machine learning on big data.We have built a system processing millions of pieces of unstructured data daily using Apache Spark.The project incorporates the research outputs of 3 university teams into a high performance production system, using our data science platform incorporating Jupyter notebooks, Spark data enrichment pipelines and a variety of natural language and machine learning tools.
