I ran an R&D team of talented mechanical, I&C, and electrical engineers, and a highly adaptable fabrication shop, developing and scaling-up the FrostCC post-combustion carbon capture technology. The group helped develop the capture technology and translate it into physical plant designs with commercial or custom-fabricated equipment. Along with traditional process plant equipment, the group specialized in advanced specialty heat exchanger design, pressure vessel design, cost optimization, and metallurgy & welding development for the patented phase-change heat exchangers.
Sr. Principal Engineer
I joined StorWorks Power in July 2022 to complete development of the nascent thermal energy storage technology prior to moving into sister company Carbon America in November, 2022. My work included one of the most interesting problems I have ever had the good fortune to work on, the ground-up design of a gigawatt-scale, medium voltage electric heater for thermal energy storage applications. The scope includes initial concept and theoretical calculations, CFD and iterative in silico design & simulation, and scoping experimental testing of small pilots.. Other contributions include balance-of-plant engineering, steam generator engineering, high-energy steam systems engineering, consultant contract management, and business development.
Development Engineer - Energy (Mechanical & Process)
I contributed as a technical consultant and design engineer specializing in thermal systems and emerging energy process technology for power generation and heavy industry. My work involved development engineering, studies and technical advisory consulting, project management, and detailed design. The development engineering role allowed me to work on studies for topics ranging from applied research into developing decarbonization technologies to reducing equipment fatigue from thermal cycling to technology assessment studies for national utilities. Through this work, I studied difficult technical challenges such as hydrogen embrittlement, transient heat transfer, multiphase and sonic flows, and other interesting topics in the interest of advising clients and assisting new designs. Other challenges in emerging technology involve understanding commercially new tech, such as PEM electrolyzers, and integrating existing technologies in new ways, like hydrogen liquefaction for energy storage or non-amine carbon capture processes.My design engineering work focuses on detailed designs for heat transfer and thermal power systems, hydrogen and industrial gas systems, process controls, etc., including process modeling and developing specifications for major equipment such as power electrolzyers, severe service control valves, heat exchangers, centrifugal compressors, VFDs, among others.I am fortunate to work with nearly all common generating technologies including fossil fuel (coal and natural gas), biofuel, hydro, renewable, and, to a limited degree, nuclear. However, my personal interest is in exploring and promoting power-to-gas (hydrogen, in particular), advanced nuclear, and other emerging technologies to enable the continued reliability, growth, and success of heavy industry in a lower-carbon future.

The first was the design and techno- economic analysis of a gasifier based power generation system for the wastewater treatment industry including developing a thermochemical computational model for biomass gasification.
