• Research, test and apply more efficient methods of map publication and data display to assist in producing the Iowa Transportation Map. Possess skills in various CAD/GIS areas including the ability to utilize a variety of software applications for such functions. • Coordinate with users and cartographers to determine their mapping needs and develop process workflows and schedules to meet those needs. Coordinate mapping activities with other DOT offices and divisions to achieve common goals. Utilize Visual Basic, primary applications, and/or supporting applications as necessary in the development. Integrate the map production process with the Geographic Information Management System (GIMS) and the Linear Referencing System (LRS) through testing and application of new technologies. • Develop and implement training in the procedures for automating map production. In addition, training will be provided to high end users who wish to develop specialized maps independently.

• Responsible for the production of the County Highway and Transportation Maps with final output in PDF, DGN, DWG, and GIS Shapefile format, as well as hard copy paper maps.• Develop various special request maps and supply data for customers inside the DOT as well as other State agencies.• Investigate, devise and implement new map production methods through the use of GeoMedia queries to automate previous manual map production methods. • Assist in ensuring the secondary road portion of Geographical Information Management System (GIMS) data is current and accurate.• When needed, assist in updating and maintaining the Iowa DOT’s Linear Referencing System (LRS).• Maintain a good working relationship with customers and strive to meet or exceed their needs, as well as market mapping products that can be produced for them.• Present information to other CAD/GIS professionals regarding the unique and technical workflow of the County H&T maps.

• Assisted in updating and maintaining the Iowa DOT’s Linear Referencing System (LRS).• Worked together with the LRS Team Leader to troubleshoot bugs in the LRS system in order to optimize system performance.• Assisted in the statewide GIMS re-map project to accurately digitize the entire state road network to high resolution aerial photography.

• Produced new feature datasets and layers for use with existing and future projects.• Updated existing datasets via “heads-up” digitizing and attribute updates.• Provided technical support to city employees with GIS questions. • Responsible for the production of high quality maps to be used by city department heads for presentations and city council meetings.• Performed traffic studies to assess new road needs.• Wrote grants to the state to help get badly needed road funding for the city.• Attended meetings and provided input weekly with developers from the Des Moines area.
