As a labor or "work" college, Berea college students work labor positions in conjunction with their studies to help pay for their tuition and to keep the operational costs of the college down. During my four years as a non-traditional student attending Berea, I ran a gamut of positions to refine skills in a variety of positions including:Ecological Design Resident - construction and maintenance on ecologically designed buildings and infrastructure including solar PV, general electrical, and solar thermal systems.Facilities Management - Assistant HVAC Technician - maintenance and repair of campus heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment. Public Outreach Coordinator - coordinating events and media for the SENS academic program.Energy & Water Conservation Program Coordinator - Office of Sustainability - working with facilities management to reduce energy and water consumption on campus.Associate Video Producer - Integrated Marketing and Communications - video editing and some videography for campus public relations.Radio Production Manager - Communications Department/WBER - Working with the program manager to establish station genres, create promos, and technically train DJs and show hosts.

Operated, repaired, and/or maintained a variety of electrically powered and diesel powered equipment used in underground coal mining to include, continuous miners, shuttle cars, roof bolting machines, coal drills, underground and above ground electrical substations, 3Ø mine electrical infrastructure ranging from 69KV to 120V, belt haulage systems, battery powered utility scoops and personnel carriers, trickle dusters, remotely operated mobile roof supports, 3Ø battery charges and so on.

Worked with various crews dismantling, refurbishing, and installing axial vane and centrifugal mine ventilation fans, personnel elevators, emergency escape hoists, and large mine hoisting systems.

Reformatted and managed the the six-week new hire training for technical support as well as developed and managed ongoing technical training for experienced technicians.

Evening shift supervisor also responsible for maintaining the professional development of up to seven technical support specialists.
