DirectorThe Cognition Factory May 2010 - May 2013One of the trends currently being bandied about at the moment relates to business marketing strategies and hinges around "hearing the voice of the customer". This trend has largely come about as a result of the growing use of technology increasing the interaction between brand and consumer. This does not specifically apply to the transactional level as it may have done pre-technology where businesses were the key drivers in delivering what consumers “wanted”. Consumers are now far more likely to engage in a conversation with business whether deliberate or not through the use of social media mechanisms. What does this mean for business then, as the power shift balances out and consumers are more likely to vent and have the means to do so than ever before? And more importantly how can organisations encourage the conversation to further develop the brand, service and overall business excellence? The answers to these questions is similar to a conversation in the movie White Men Can’t Jump where we have an ability to listen to our customers but we don’t necessary hear our customers. Herein the difference lies and where real advantages can be gained by hearing the voice of the customer. It is our belief that the most effective and efficient way to do this is through the use of research, but not in just creating a vehicle to collect information. Rather to initiate dialogue with your customers that is two way and this involves careful questioning and creative analysis. That provides not only insight but the ability to assist in developing relevant strategies from the conversation. In this day and age communication has become more important than ever before and the need to interpret and hear is at the fore if organisations want to adapt and continue to engage with their customers. It is here that The Cognition Factory can assist you.
