Increased the utilization and capability of the Rapid Prototyping Center. Grew the RPC lab to 25+ 3D printers of differing technologies, producing over 40,000 pieces of 3D printed parts in the last year. Developed capabilities to print short run injection molds, thermoform tools, simple progressive dies, hydroform tools, and other hybrid applications.Stood up a 3D scanning lab for use as a development tool for analyzing New Product Introduction design problems. Utilized GOM blue light scanning and Aramis dynamic scanning to help engineers evaluate new designs. Introduced Geomagic for reverse engineering applications.Stood up a Virtual Reality Lab for evaluating new designs prior to prototyping. VR allows us to do craftsmanship reviews before the product was ever built. It grew into a tool for project scoping, marketing research, sales training, and a training tool for new employees.Managed a Product Teardown lab for competitive product analysisOverall responsibilities:- Managing 6-10 employees across 4 labs and 2 sites.- Evaluating and recommending new technologies- Working with requesting engineers to establish appropriate project techniques- Conducting yearly training for Edison Engineers on Additive manufacturing, 3D scanning, Virtual Reality, and basic Sheet Metal fabrication.- Doing engineering required for simple injection molds, sheet metal blank design, bending process definition.- Managing an over $1MM budget for materials, equipment maintenance, software, contractors, etc.
