For the past two and a bit years I have been working for Auckland Council in the Connected Communities department of Auckland Council at Oranga Community Centre, first as a Place Host and for the last year as a program coordinator. As a program co-ordinator at Oranga Community Centre, I ensure that the community centre is engaged and active with the Oranga Community, that people within the community feel heard, and empowered, as well as establishing, building on, and maintaining relationships with different aspects of government, local enterprises, and NGOs. I ensure that Oranga Community Centre is an active space with plenty of various programs that benefit the Oranga Community. My heart is with community, and I love working on the ground and helping insure that people in the community have as much opportunities to take part and enjoy everyday life. Currently I am working toward obtaining my Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Psychology part time whilst working full time. Prior to this career, I worked in the advertising industry at NZME. as a recording engineer and creative writer.

My role involved extensive collaboration with community stakeholders, including government organizations like Kainga Ora and Piratahi, as well as local schools, businesses, and NGOs.During my tenure, I spearheaded a five-part podcast series on the Panthers television series, focusing on the Dawn Raids and contemporary issues like racism in New Zealand. This project, created in collaboration with the cast and crew of Panthers and supported by the Auckland Council Pasifika Success Team, and is featured on the Auckland Council Heritage Website, and on Spotify.Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, I organized the first council facility-based vaccination drive to encourage vaccinations during the lockdown, this required stakeholder relationship management with health providers, landowners, and council. Additionally, I planned and executed eleven successful school holiday programs, each a week-long, free program providing lunch to children. Each school holiday program, would reach full capacity within under an hour of spots being made avaliable.My efforts also led to over a 100% increase in social media engagement compared to the previous year. Furthermore, I secured multiple funding grants for community stakeholders, enabling them to continue their essential work and projects while fostering growth and capacity within the Oranga Community.

In October of 2017 I moved from the Hybrid [Copywriting and Audio Engineering role] to a full time audio engineering role. This role requires me to run a recording studio, where I direct voice talent of different abilities to not only get the best read out of them, but also to help them grow as voice talent. Predominantly majority of the audio engineering work that I do is radio advertisements, although from time to time I do focus on other projects. This role requires a lot of attention to detail, good communication skills and good time management. On an average day I will record and mix down anywhere between thirty to fifty radio advertisements from start to finish. This requires a good balance of being able to produce not only quality sounding audio but also in a vast quantity too. As an audio production engineer directing voice talent is only part of the role, the other part involves technical abilities. This is where the mixing comes in and having a good understanding of how to navigate your way in software like Pro Tools, Nexgen, Adobe Audition among other software. During my time in this full time role, and even before when I was doing it in the Hybrid role and in Wellington I was continually upskilling having industry professionals critique my work and give feed back so I could improve myself as an audio engineer. The role as an audio engineer is also an important one technically where having a good understanding of how sound works. I have fundamental and good understanding on how to EQ voices to get them to sound the way in which I want them to sound, as well as a good knowledge on how to use compression in an effective way to get the best of the audio that I produce, the same applies to mastering my audio.
