My primary duties revolve around the day-to-day operations of a call center that seats just under 500, and the business operations that support them. This includes a substantial network switching infrastructure, as well as SIP gateways and Asterisk installs,and maintaining our 50 or so Linux servers. I also participate in DevOps for our development staff of 10, providing web services and scripting support, as well as some server infrastructure, including VMware vCenter, CentOS and Ubuntu Linux, and Coraid SAN management for our primary products.I also have spearheaded a network redesign and upgrade, as well as the build-out of a new infrastructure to replace many of our aging components that are in dire need of replacement. This includes everything from battery backups and new racks, to high speed, highly-redundant network switching, a new SAN, and a much more robust VMware architecture. The ultimate goal is a highly redundant, cleanly implemented, clearly documented system, built with expansion and maintenance in mind, all in addition to being significantly faster and more flexible than our previous systems.I also worked to build out an extensive notification, monitoring and documentation setup, using Nagios, Cacti, phpIPAM, Rancid, and a home-grown asset management program we call Ampersand (that I hope to one day open source). This has allowed us to be proactive when responding to outages; we are often working on solutions before the users even notice there are problems.

I was a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Computer & Information Technology. My responsibilities included: presiding over two separate Systems Administration labs and an Enterprise Network Management lab, as well as a share of the infrastructure maintenance for the Network Engineering Technology's sizable network. Also during this time I served on the College of Technology Grade Appeals Committee.

Worked on refining the Accounts system implemented by myself and Josh Tressler in the summer of 2007. Added several requested features, made major overhauls to Javascript and some database interactions. Worked on getting a system in place to facilitate a single point of data entry for the two systems currently in use (one for billing, one for everything else), but was forced to leave due to rising fuel costs and the extended commute.

The AgCommunications Department is a Macintosh Island in a PC-filled ecosystem. With extensive publication, graphics- and movie-editing requirements, and the majority of the editors and artists preferring Apple's platform, they choose to keep a part time (student) IT Geek with Mac-specific skills. For about a year and a half, I filled the position, maintaining between 35 and 55 macs during my tenure, building an employing an extensive knowledge of Apple's OS X operating system to make my job easier and efficient, and make the lives of my users as fluid and interruption-free as possible. I did my best to go above and beyond my job requirements and give them the best experience possible.

Co-designed and was the lead programmer for a ground-up brand new Intranet Account Database for tracking customer information about the various services the company provided. The system ended up being close to 10,000 lines of code with almost 30,000 records spread across 62 tables, was written using PHP, AJAX (including the Prototype and Scriptaculous Frameworks) and used MySQL as its Database.

Duties on actual race days included setup and tear down of any number of special event facilities, and generally doing whatever was necessary to ensure the best possible experience for everybody at the track, from the officials, to the drivers and crew, to the fans.
