Communications professional.I've worked across digital, print, audio, and social media; in busy press offices and newsrooms; and helped organsiations with their content strategy and messaging. In recent years I've often worked in the third sector, making podcasts, writing about, and delivering training on human rights issues, with a specific focus on countering disinformation. My media career started in editorial roles in the commercial sector, where I worked as a journalist, copywriter, and producer. I've written for newspapers, magazines, websites, podcasts, and radio. I spent almost a decade at the BBC and have freelanced for people like the Cabinet Office, Brighton & Hove Albion FC, and the UN, as well as much smaller start-ups, dot.coms, and NGOs.As well as wide-ranging experience as a trainer, facilitator, and mentor, I continue to make media. I’m passionate about podcasts: in recent years I’ve series-edited, produced, presented, uploaded, and written punchy and persuasive (yet SEO* friendly) shownotes for podcasts.Job titles have included writer, digital producer, launch editor, copyeditor, trainer, facilitator, press officer, communications manager, mentor, instructional designer, training director, and account manager.Beats include sport, human rights, disinformation, and travel. I've also written news bulletins, features, op-eds, speeches, books, handbooks, online learning modules, creative copy, and style guides. Extensive international experience.I currently freelance, but looking to grow as part of a permanent team and to continue to use my media skills for positive purposes.

Writer/Editor/Media ConsultantVarious Feb 1992 - PresentSince working as a sports correspondent whilst still at college (I was Trevor Brooking's producer aged 20!) freelance consultancy work has been an important part of my career, when my main contracts have allowed. I've written and made media for the BBC, the UN, the Guardian, Boneshaker magazine, Mr. and Mrs. Smith hotel guides, Bristol Life, and the Jordan Times.I’ve also worked extensively as a copywriter in the commercial and public sectors. As well as developing guidelines for style, voice, and tone, I’ve written tweets, slogans, promotional and instructional copy, social media and email newsletters on behalf of clients...I’ve also written annual reviews, project proposals, crafted campaigns around public health issues, and used audience insights to script viral video campaigns. I’m comfortable turning jargon and industry language into plain English and calls to action, and have worked on both commercial and behaviour change campaigns.I've worked as a trainer and learning consultant, creating and delivering online and face to face training.I’ve also got launch and strategy experience, including writing press releases, hosting press conferences and representing organisations. I’ve worked as a subeditor and copyeditor, and I have extensive experience planning and writing online training material for communicators, campaigners, and journalists.
