I'm currently a Senior Director/Manager of Standards at BlackBerry (makers of QNX RTOS and Hypervisor, and other products/services) where I am responsible for managing and influencing several standards as well as multiple government and industry initiatives. I have 24 years’ experience within standards and 6 years of experience working in the area of (automotive) cybersecurity.Previously I was lead delegate for BlackBerry in several cellular standards groups (3GPP, GSMA), driving the emerging technical standardisation of 4G and 5G technologies in alignment with BlackBerry’s interests. More recently, I have been working on automotive cybersecurity and software update engineering standards, predominantly within ISO and SAE, but also in the development of international regulations in UNECE, where I led work on providing requirements’ mappings to international standards. I have also been involved in ETSI, specifically the TC CYBER committee, where, amongst other work, I hold the editorship for the technical specification on the EU NIS2 Directive implementation standard.I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual and believe that good communication and co-operation form the foundations of effective teamwork and collaboration. Although I consider myself to be a strong team member, I also enjoy using my initiative and working on my own. I incorporate both planning and organisational skills to deliver a high standard of work, most commonly under pressure.I am not shy to step up to leadership roles, having previously held several chair and co-chair positions within ISO (and previously other standards fora), driving and directing the work for the current and next editions of international standards for automotive cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434) and software update engineering (ISO 24089) and associated regulations (UNECE WP.29’s UN R155 and UN R156).I am comfortable in summarising technical information to multiple levels within my organisation, from engineers to product managers and also to senior and board-level management, in order to provide briefings and to solicit feedback in order to shape company strategies and engagement. I also provide internal consultancy on implementing and gaining conformance to standards and regulations.
