Senior Policy Officer working in the Scottish Governments flagship Reaching 100% (R100) Broadband delivery programme primarily looking after policy for the £600 million R100 Contracts, as well as working with policy colleagues on the R100 Scottish Broadband Scheme and the UK Governments Project Gigabit programme. This includes providing policy direction and producing updates for Ministers, stakeholders and across Scottish Government. A varied role it also included producing advice, briefing and intelligence for Ministers, senior officials and other colleagues on broadband policy issues.

I was a Project Manager for the Next Generation Broadband in the HIE Digital Team, primarily working with BT and the Scottish Government on the roll out of Next Generation Broadband across the Highlands and Islands. This £146m project transformed broadband access across half of Scotland's geography.I am a certified PRINCE2 practioner and work to PRINCE2 project management principles. I looked after the risk register, stakeholder management, change control and the related paperwork from the user position.

I worked directly with ambitious companies, offering advice, signposting and access to finance. We used a suite of products, programmes and specialist advisers to assist companies fulfil their aspirations, whilst increasing wealth and employment across the region.I had a particular interest in companies in the Business Services, Creative Industries and Life Sciences sectors. I also worked closely with Business Gateway to support companies with potential for high growth and internationalisation.

Caithness & Sutherland

As part of a small, effective team working on the £6m redevelopment of John O’Groats, I had specific responsibility for the successful public arts projects. Within Caithness and Sutherland, I led on connectivity and ICT - particularly in relation to next generation broadband.

Northern Hype Ltd was a successful marketing, design and print company, whose clients included First Leisure PLC, Schuh Ltd, The Lemon Tree (Aberdeen), The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Grampian Tourist Board, Revolution PR, many small businesses, record labels, promoters, arts groups and entertainment venues. • Set up a small, part-time business as a way of funding myself through University. • Created and ran very successful ‘student nights’ in Aberdeen nightclubs and every summer produced the ‘Aberdeen Student Wallplanner’ – an academic year planner distributed free to all the students in Aberdeen and paid for via advertising around the edges. • Upon graduation used the surplus profits, and assistance from Aberdeen Enterprise Trust, to set up the full time business Northern Hype.
