Growing up, like everyone, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. However, over time, I was pulled closer and closer to writing. I was drawn to the creativity and imagination that could be achieved with writing. Entire crazy and dynamic worlds could be constructed through just the written word, through genres like fiction and fantasy. A person’s life could become an engaging story with nonfiction. A message could be clearly communicated in a fun and engaging way with a well-written essay. The possibilities of writing are as big as one’s imagination. I remember sitting in my graphic novel literature class in high school and realizing that I wanted to be a writer.I graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a degree in Professional Writing. During my time there, I further developed my skills as a writer. I honed my skills with creative writing, where I learned how to effectively tell an engaging story. I went outside my comfort zone with forms of writing that I wasn’t as familiar with such as creative nonfiction and poetry. Also, I began to develop professional writing skills through my professional writing classes, where I learned how to effectively convey a message, while keeping the reader engaged and informed.During my time at UIndy, I also acquired an interest in editing and proofreading, skills I use as a freelance writing lab tutor at Brainfuse. I love helping other writers improve their work, ensuring that it is the best that it can be.Now, I am a freelance copywriter, where I get to use all of the skills I have learned and continue honing them. With copywriting, I get to explore my creativity by telling stories while also exercising my professional writing skills. While I am confident in my abilities, I like to continue looking at things from a student’s point of view, meaning I’m always looking for new techniques to learn and always looking for ways to improve my skills, knowing that there is always more to learn.
