Design Engineer
ITAB manufactures fixtures and fittings for the retail industry. With a strong technical bias, my role involved the liaison with both existing and new clients to undertake design and product development projects. Components are primarily sheet metal based although the use of other materials is common.• Principle design detailer on product ranges for client accounts to the value of £5m of sales revenue annually.• Assisted the Business Manager in obtaining design briefs from end client and took these from prototype through to production.• Production of engineering drawings and documentation for both prototype manufacture and batch production. 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Inventor) CAD systems used on a daily basis.• Creation of rendered 3D visuals for client approval using Inventor Studio.• Liaison with subcontract manufacturers, suppliers and fitters to ensure all aspects of the project are considered at design stage. Responsible for the transferral of design information for outsourcing manufacture to low cost countries such as China. • Good commercial skills engaged daily through cost reduction with the aid of an MRP system (Jeeves) to evaluate manufacturing techniques. Creation and maintenance of BOMs and operations on MRP system. Value engineering deployed at design stage to enable more cost effective design solutions.• Good knowledge of sheet metal fabrication including flat pattern development. Basic knowledge of other materials and their fabrication techniques such as MDF, MFC, glass and acrylic.

City Steel is a sheet metal and structural steel workshop providing subcontract metalwork to the retail sector and the general construction industry. • Controlled and undertook design work on projects to the value of £250k Annually.
