Co-FounderTravelground Jan 2008 - Jul 2010TravelGround.com is an online accommodation booking portal, which started with the aim of providing a Google-like, keyword-based search for accommodation in South Africa.We built up a comprehensive database of local B&Bs and Guesthouses by focusing on streamlining the complex on-boarding process - allowing us to quickly expand our coverage of South Africa.After launching the website, we realised that our keyword-based search was too complex for users to understand and so simplified the offering significantly and focused on optimizing our user acquisition channels. This approach worked well and TravelGround rapidly grew market share.At TravelGround I was involved in business strategy, product development and web-development. I left the company in 2010 to complete my final year of university.TravelGround (and its Afrikaans subsidiary, LekkeSlaap) now has over 70 employees and has won numerous e-Commerce awards.

Co-FounderSynchronic 2006 - 2010Synchronic was started with two friends during our second last year in high school. Originally formed in order to allow us to get access to cheaper gaming equipment, we soon started taking orders for friends and small businesses. One of our early clients, Orbis Security (acquired by Securitas), entered a stage of rapid growth and Synchronic became the technical solutions provider for their business. Synchronic managed the servers and network for over 40 employees at Orbis' Head Office, as well as numerous satellite offices which required full access to the various network services.
