Co-owning a small business has to be the most rewarding thing I’ve done in my life!Hi, I’m Nick Tilly, together with my partner Tim Dunnill we own Harvey World Travel Richmond. I’m one of the those individuals whose working life has gone in all sorts of directions, I started my working life with a four year horticulture apprentice and then did another five years in the horticulture industry. I then changed directions and moved into community work with the Deaf Association of New Zealand eventually becoming a professional, qualified NZ Sign Language Interpreter based in Nelson. Several years later I moved into the community mental health field, which then led into administration in the tertiary education sector. After 14 years at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, in September 2014 I’ve changed tack yet again, and I’m now part time in the travel agency I co-own and part time in a new administrative role at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco.During my time at NMIT I juggled full time work with part time studies, completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Management) degree in 2010.So a lifetime of different experience is now brought to bear on our small travel agency! My focus in the business tends to be on the marketing, promotions and accounting side of things. But moving forward, I want to move into the groups/escort travel market.25 years ago I dreamed of being a travel agent and did a night class course with Travel Careers and Training Ltd… now I’m living the dream!
