Education has always been a passion of mine. That passion has included traveling through Australia, America, Central America, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia, and living and working in London, Guatemala, New York, Poland, Dubai, and since 2003, in Australia. Those travels and work opportunities arose because of my initial training in English as a Second Language. However, from 1996 I started to focus on utilizing my teaching skills within Higher Education. My areas of interest have always been course and curriculum design, materials development, student-centred pedagogy and independent learning, and educational leadership; I focused on these areas in my MEd in TESOL from Edinburgh University and again in my subsequent postgraduate leadership and ministry studies. I have worked at five English-medium universities in the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, the UK and Australia, and have been a part of two start up universities. I joined the University of Southern Queensland in 2006, and worked there as a lecturer and Associate Director, and from 2011 I was mainly involved in online course design and delivery. My research interests focus on the teacher/student relationship, and how a sense of acceptance, dignity, value and belonging are established. In 2023, I completed my PhD on servant leadership and servant teaching, and that was an opportune moment to change careers and leverage off my work and ministry experience. I now work as the Discipleship Oversight at Hillsong Greater Springfield, and it is a job which combines my twin loves of education and faith.
