As Research Business and Partnerships Manager, I contribute to and support the Future Protein Mission in CSIRO Agriculture and Food. I am responsible for ensuring the Mission is engaged with Government and Industry stakeholders for maximum relevance and impact. Other duties include developing and leading the Mission’s monitoring and evaluation programs, coordinating preparation of proposals, building networks and representing the Mission to various internal and external audiences. I also coordinate internal business processes and provide advice and support to the Mission lead on issues, challenges, risks and interactions with key stakeholders and external parties.The global population will reach 9.7 billion by 2050, fueling the demand for protein. The world will need to produce more protein, more sustainably, from more sources into the future not only to meet this boom but also the changing dietary patterns of the modern health- and ethically conscious consumer. The aim of the Future Protein Mission is to grow Australia's protein industry by $10b by 2025. The mission aims to seize the opportunity created by the world’s growing demand for high quality protein by supporting new Australian industries through science, innovation and technology.

Reporting to the General Manager, Nutrition and Technical, I play a key role in driving Ridley’s R&D strategy, facilitating R&D leads and opportunities, and supporting R&D SMEs to find winning and innovative commercial solutions for Ridley.• Lead for Ridley’s successful $3M CRC-P project application, and now Chair of the project.• Management of research partner relationships across the globe, including establishing multi-year funding arrangements and supporting scores of PhD and post-doctoral candidates. A key requirement is managing the delicate balance between Ridley’s commercial interests and the requirements of universities and other research bodies with regards to IP, publication, and commercial rights. A core component of my role is writing and review of contracts across Ridley’s research network, including Research Services Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, long-term Research Partnership Agreements, commercialisation agreements, and IP negotiations.• Development of strong and robust external and strategic relationships with customers, industry partners, and new product and technology providers.• Development of commercial rationale (e.g. business cases and financial modelling) for R&D ideas and projects, and reporting strategy and project status to Ridley’s Executive Lead Team and Board of Directors.• Ownership and completion of Ridley’s R&D Tax Incentive claim. I have achieved a five-fold increase in the financial claim size compared to previous external consultants because of my in-depth understanding of business operations.

At Griffith Hack, a tier-one patent and IP law firm, I was an R&D Tax Consultant in the Innovation Incentives division. I provided consulting services regarding the R&D Tax Incentive, requiring engagement and conformance with legislation and regulation from the ATO and AusIndustry. The key functions included:• Interviewing clients (both executive and technical personnel) from a range of backgrounds to provide R&D training and source the technical information required to complete the R&D Tax Incentive claim process.• Drafting of R&D Project Descriptions to evidence eligibility of clients’ R&D activities in accordance with ITAA1997.• Collation of financial information and calculation of eligible R&D expenditure based on sustainable economic apportionment methodologies to maximize the tax incentive benefit for the client.• Assisting partners and managers with a range of other services including Transfer Pricing, Grants, Patent Box and tax policy advocacy.
