About Nikita Wibisono

Let’s be honest: It’s rough out there for creative professionals. With companies cutting costs, the ROI of design can be a tough sell. Why pay top dollar for ‘pretty pictures’, right? Except in today’s attention economy, those visuals are how you get seen in a sea of competitors. This is what excites me. I love working with clients to showcase their products in the most compelling way, using branding, advertising campaigns, user experience (UX), social media, customer journey mapping, and more for maximum impact with minimal resources. It’s not just design; it’s smart business.I’m also passionate about team development and design leadership. Through workshops, design reviews, 1-on-1 coaching, and more, I create a culture where designers feel empowered, valued, and as invested as I am in the product’s success. As a former boss once told me, my job is to “create more Nickys.”As a leader, I’m not all talk—I show people how it’s done by diving hands-on when necessary, with my fingerprints on everything from graphic design to animation to UX design. I keep my skills sharp by working as a freelance motion designer, continuously learning, designing board games, jamming my ukulele, and even cooking my own meals. I'm not afraid to get my hands calloused and dirty, because creating is just who I am.So whether you need a designer, an animator, or someone to lead a team of yours, I’m your man. Hit me up at nickyinprogress@gmail.com.

Listed skills include Animation, Illustration, Photoshop, Illustrator, and 21 others.

TEAM LEADERSHIP & MENTORSHIPWe led and mentored a team of 40+ designers, animators, illustrators, copywriters, and managers, setting clear expectations while providing the support needed to meet them through workshops, study materials, hands-on examples, and 1:1 coaching. We successfully encouraged senior members to actively share knowledge through their own workshops.MOTIVATION THROUGH GROWTH & OWNERSHIPWith the economy making financial incentives harder to maintain, we motivated through supporting their personal growth. Low turnover, high happiness, and strong productivity compared to other departments demonstrate the success of this approach.HANDS-ON DESIGNI can and still do hands-on design, using tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, Figma, After Effects, and Premiere to ensure quality of work or to give better, actionable feedback. We also demonstrated our relevance in a post-AI world by exploring how AI improves speed and efficiency, using it as a tool rather than a replacement.MARKETING STRATEGY & IMPROVED COLLABORATIONWe emphasized communication skills within the team, empowering each IC to present ideas and address issues. We introduced methods like customer journey mapping to better identify what strategies to employ, instead of relying on industry conventions and copying competitors.Since late 2023, our Marketing Design department has taken some key responsibilities usually owned by the Marketing team, overseen branding and strategy for key products like the e-commerce Marketplace, Mitra, and Investment, while they focused on retail ventures like ADLV, Aland, and NatGeo instead (Note: Marketing and Marketing Design are separate departments).

Nov 2023 - Present

Manager Of Marketing Design

Jakarta, Indonesia

FACILITATE TRANSITION TO PRODUCT DESIGN TEAMI played a key role in integrating the Marketing Design team (previously part of Marketing) with the Product Design team. We shifted them from simple executors to critical thinkers, focusing on purposeful designs, effective communication, while giving them the career and skill growth opportunities they weren't given before.CRAFTED TEACHING MATERIALS & WORKSHOPSI provided in-depth, hands-on feedback with real, objective examples to ensure I don’t just correct the problem at hand, but correct the team’s skills and thinking. I built a library of educational material, conducted various workshops, and shared some on the @bukalapak.design Instagram account.INTRODUCED A BUSINESS-CENTRIC DESIGN MINDSETI ensured our solutions were not only pretty, but made a significant impact with minimal resources. Examples include:• CEO wanted the art styles to change frequently. We changed themes annually, but kept layouts guidelines and templates consistent for scalability.• Product Design team needed hundreds of different UX illustrations. We reduced the list to key terms and used context for clarity to be more efficient with resources while not reducing impact and function.• Business Team wants banner ad to contain too much information. We negotiated a more reasonable length and proposed new layouts to fit that information without losing aesthetics and stopping power.

Oct 2018 - Nov 2023

Senior Illustrator And Motion Designer

Jakarta, Indonesia

DEVELOP NEW ILLUSTRATIONS & MICRO ANIMATIONSPreviously, illustrations were handled by UX Designers who just happened to be able to illustrate. I built upon and improved the established art style, and worked with UX Designers and Engineers to create several micro animations using After Effects and Lottie for elements like the favorite button, loaders, floating icons, and other UI components.BUILT A SOLID TEAMI established an Illustration team of 4+ people, working closely with the Talent team to sort through applications, conduct interviews, and provide a primer on hiring illustrators (I also helped hire Motion Designers, a role I had experience in). I built a team with strong initial skills and immense growth potential. Reflecting on this in 2023, I’m proud to say they exceeded expectations and lived up to their potential.VERSATILE VISUAL DESIGN SKILLSThough my official role was illustrator, my versatility and the trust I earned within the team allowed me to contribute to graphic design as well. I provided quality control, hands-on guidance, and revisions to ensure the highest standards across the board.
