Manager, Workforce Analytics

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Managing a small team of analysts, I am responsible for driving improvements in the analytics and reporting of the VPSCs annual whole of public sector workforce data. Implementing a review of current collection practices, I have identified a range of improvements in the collection, validation, and analysis of data and how we communicate with external stakeholders.Responding to changing business requirements, I have also implemented the VPSC’s transition to PowerBI and R. This involved establishing strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to anticipate their data needs and working with the development team to design and create suitable reporting solutions.

Project Lead, Digital Transformation

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

As the project lead, I was responsible for successfully transforming the VPSC’s annual data reporting from a single hard copy publication to a suite of tailored digital products. Using agile practices and leading a small virtual team, two detailed data releases and one insights piece, were successfully released.Delivering the project required developing & and coordinating work plans and facilitating cooperation between multiple branches within the commission. Meeting tight deadlines meant prioritising and allocating work was essential. Working with technical leads from across the communication, digital and data teams required a deep understanding of each perspective, and how they could complement each other to achieve the project goals.

Analytics Lead

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

As the analytics lead within the Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC) I am responsible for redesigning all reporting and analytics provided through the annual people matter survey (the survey). Open to the entire Victorian Public Service and Sector, the survey provides over 300,000 people with the opportunity to answer over 100 questions about their role.Leading the design of these reports, made available to over 9% of the Victorian working population, requires working with a range of internal and external stakeholders across the sector, from regional health care providers to the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Understanding the type of data collected, and the diverse needs of these stakeholders has allowed me to apply visual design theory to produce a brand new suite of products and reports.

Senior Performance Analyst

Melbourne, Australia

Within the performance reporting and analysis team at DJCS, I was responsible for designing and providing training on data collection across a range of services. These include designing and implementing all reporting on participation in Offending Behaviour Programs, from complex statistical analysis to reports, presentations and dashboards. This requires an understanding of stakeholder’s needs and motivation, allowing me to develop effective insights and visualisations.I also led business process mapping in the design of new databases to meet policy requirements. Ensuring accurate data collection to measure the success of these policies required working with stakeholders from across DJCS to map and understand current business processes. In addition to internal teams and senior managers, I regularly work with external service providers and developed relationships with the University of Melbourne and Griffith University.I also worked closely with the evaluation team, applying statistical methods including stratified sampling and linear or logistic regression to determine the effectiveness of programs. This gave DJCS the ability to perform in-house audit and evaluation, often avoiding the need to commission external consultants.Specific projects included:Demand Modelling – Working with large complex datasets, to develop robust demand modelling for Corrections Victoria. Modelling demand for prison and community programs required developing a model that included population growth, policy change, changing demographics, sentence lengths and churn.Database Design – Working with both the business and the database developers, I was responsible for ensuring that organisational needs are translated into accurate database design. This required designing entity relationship diagrams and helping both staff and database developers understand how to capture data to meet their needs.

This involved working with all 10 teams to a national deadline, and ensuring relevant and accurate data was presented at a national level.• Negotiating contract extensions for community providers – During my time with the learning and Skills Council, services by a number of community organisations were scheduled to come to an end. Having identified the need for further provision, I identified additional funding sources and working with multiple stakeholders arranged new contracts to allow services to continue uninterrupted.• Managing the regional transport fund – I worked with regional stakeholders, including local councils, to ensure they met their annual transport fund commitments. This involved ensuring stakeholders worked to deadlines and providing advice and guidance on their commitments. Each year I ensured transport plans were produced within budget and within the deadline.• Analysing government spending on young offenders – I was responsible for analysing data on re offending rates in the North of England, and conducting interviews with staff at a number of youth offending centres in the region.
