Senior Exploitation Engineer - Kakwa & North Properties
Exploitation Engineer - Kakwa
Exploitation Engineer - Se Saskatchewan, Manitoba & North Dakota
• Oversee the development strategy of Midale and Frobisher drilling in SE Saskatchewan and Spearfish drilling in Pierson and Bottineau. The Midale formation boasts some of the strongest horizontal multi stage economics in the Williston basin and is still able to generate competitive rates of return in the current price environment. • Implemented a three year plan for all areas with significant future step out and infill drilling. This allows me to effectively manage risk, expiries, well commitments, infrastructure limitations and development goals. • Work extensively with reservoir engineers and service companies to test and design tailored Midale frac programs to improve ultimate recoveries. This includes core work, frac simulations and adapting to technology innovations.• Initiated the transition of our Steelman field from primary to secondary recovery through conversion of horizontal wells to injection. There are currently three wells under injection with plans to convert an additional six wells over the next year to increase the reservoir pressure back above bubble point.• Responsible for the evaluation and presentation of all major corporate sales packages and minor swaps in my areas. I make bid recommendations directly to executive management allowing them to make the most informed decisions for the company.
Exploitation Engineer - Slave Point
• Accountable for the execution of the development plan for Penn West’s Otter, Sawn, and Red Earth fields. We utilized single and dual lateral horizontal multi stage fracture stimulation in the Slave Point tight oil formation.• Otter was in its fourth year of drilling and was in the final stage of development. I fine-tuned our proven well design and was experimenting with new two section laterals to improve capital efficiencies. In addition to the primary development in Otter, there was a water flood pilot underway utilizing two horizontal injectors to flatten decline rates and increase the overall recovery factor. Water flood applications were progressing to allow the conversion of an additional seven horizontal wells to injection.• Sawn was beyond the appraisal stage with three years of drilling completed. This area was geologically superior to Otter and Red Earth but had much less well control and was being developed at a more conservative pace. • Red Earth was just completing its last appraisal wells to help determine the size of the prize and most effective spacing and frac designs. We developed a five year plan that would coincide with the construction of a new oil battery to handle the incremental volumes.• My primary responsibility was co-ordinating Penn West’s functional groups to execute our development programs on time and on budget. This included First Nations, Surface Acquisition, Licensing, Construction, Drilling, Completions, Facilities, Production, and EOR. Program readiness, tracking, and engagement in all aspects of operations were important to implementing cost savings initiatives and realize cycle time reductions.
Evaluation Engineer - Business Development
• Completed economic evaluations of potential business development opportunities for Penn West. After considering engineering value, possible competing companies, and compatibility with Penn West production, I presented a bid value to senior management. These deal sizes range from small tuck-ins to large multi-billion dollar corporate acquisitions.• Responsible for all of Central Alberta, focusing mostly on Penn West’s Cardium play in Pembina and the surrounding properties. I previously worked on the Saskatchewan and Manitoba areas, focusing on the Waskada Lower Amaranth development.• Coordinated with Penn West exploration teams and Landmen to identify acquisition opportunities beyond public disposition packages to increase Penn West’s influence in its core areas. • During my second year in the group I become one of the leaders on the A&D evaluations team. I was responsible for maintaining our databases, updating our evaluation procedures, and training new team members.
Reservoir Engineer – Technical Advisor
• Completed an internship through the University of Calgary’s Engineering Internship Program and then continued working for AJM part time while completing the fourth year of my degree. My last three years were spent working full time at AJM specializing in unconventional oil and gas resources.• Promoted to Technical Advisor of my business group in April 2009. I was responsible for developing evaluation procedures for unconventional oil and gas plays, reviewing junior engineers work to maintain high levels of quality, and mentoring new employees who joined AJM.• Worked extensively on corporate reserves and provided unbiased perspectives of the corporate evaluation process to clients. Throughout this time, I have achieved an in-depth knowledge of the government reporting regulations of Canada and the United States.
Student Engineer - Field Drilling Coordinator
• While employed with Apache's Calgary Drilling Department, I worked on developing their Hatton Project. This project consisted of 461 shallow gas wells drilled through the Milk River, Medicine Hat and Second White Specks formations. The wells varied from 500 - 750 meters in depth.• My responsibilities included daily drilling operations and project tracking. I organized and directed the activities of four surface rigs along with six coil tubing drilling rigs. This included organizing water & vac trucks, cement crews, casing, moving crews and any other requirements to keep the rigs operating smoothly.
