Engaged as a gallery assistant for the Seattle branch of the venerable Hong Kong-based firm, I researched objects and created copy for internal use and objects featured online.As the database had not been kept in good repair, I took it upon myself to refine terms and ensure proper cataloging. In the process, we discovered discrepancies and were able to rectify inventory. To educate those without a background in Asian art, I contributed to a glossary of terms and concepts, useful for both staff and patrons.Strong customer service, photographic skills, and a knowledge of Asian art and culture were key.The Seattle location is now closed and has moved to Mount Vernon.

As part of the curatorial team at Bonanza, I produced content consistent with the tone of the site. Whether crafting newsletters, social media posts, or whimsical campaigns, my goal was to bring a sense of excitement to our corner of the internet.Because so many curiosities can be found on Bonanza, a firm hand and flexible mind were required to keep an orderly and nuanced catalog. What the site's robots could not catalog was achieved by human power. Considerable research, patience, and creativity was required for this task.Additional projects included writing a script for a film short, shooting stock photography, and new member outreach.

Initially conceived as a window into San Francisco history and politics, my weekly Urbane Studies column evolved into a close reading of San Francisco's Tenderloin district. With a dense and diverse population, the much-maligned neighborhood remains one of extreme importance, being a starting point for newly arrived San Franciscans and home to an estimated 4,000 children. Highlighting development, positive changes, and extant challenges, my work presented urban studies reportage in a less scholarly and more intimate guise.During the editors' absences, I acted as guest editor, producing content of a more general nature.

Responsible for the management of a media department consisting of thousands of titles, I helped to grow the department as the museum changed from a smaller institution into the largest freestanding museum of Asian art and culture in the Western world. The position required knowledge of art, culture, and history, as well as politics and contemporary art. Owing to my institutional connections, I aided in exhibition planning, programming, social media, and special projects, and acted as a primary institutional contact. During the museum's rebranding process, I participated in reimagining the museum's public profile through print and social media, e-commerce, and collateral.Key tasks included:-- production of visual and written content for the museum magazine, website, and signage -- merchandising product in response to exhibitions, programming, and promotions-- researching and creating cohesive thematic collections related to exhibitions-- developing and maintaining an e-commerce proxy-- blogging and commissioning community members to engage in social media/guest blogging-- product photography

Through extensive contact and mandatory tutoring, students who participated in the program completed their first years in college with better grades and higher success rates than similar students who did not enroll in the program.Initially I was brought into the program to provide aid for at-risk Freshmen and Sophomore students, but was soon promoted to coordinator, where I was able to act as on-call mentor and liaison with both faculty and students. The program was dissolved owing to financial difficulties sustained by the University, as well as a programming change that determined that students would not be accepted on the provisionary basis that allowed their participation.

Through a grant from the Lannan Foundation, the VCP awarded prizes and hosted readings for writers in the greater Los Angeles area. I expanded the goals of the organization to include publishing, poetry outreach, and sought to form new alliances within the literary community.
