I have recently completed the counselling diploma at the University of the West of England. I am interested in practicing skills in person-centred, gestalt and psychodynamic therapy. These three approaches are included in my course and I also have background understanding from my completion of a psychology degree and counselling certificate. To date I am completing my counselling placement working with 11 to 18 year olds and use an integrative approach towards a range of presenting problems. I have accrued over 70 client hours and am looking forward to gaining more hours and experience with an adult client base. I am also currently employed as an autism therapist and I hold a person centred approach to my one-to-one work with clients. I also work closely with the client’s parents, teaching staff and other therapists and have a great awareness of how important a good working relationship can be. I have found it to be greatly beneficial to display counselling skills when working in these relationships, and ensure that individuals are heard and supported. I also have a responsibility to understand boundaries and confidentiality issues in this role. I believe I would make an enthusiastic and dedicated trainee and I have an open-minded, sensitive and trustworthy nature.
