Nicola Diviani Email and Phone Number
I am a Senior Research Fellow at Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF), within the Human Functioning Unit, Person-Centered Health Care & Health Communication Group, and a Lecturer at the University of Lucerne, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine. Over the years, I have co-led several pivotal projects, including a three-year initiative funded by the Swiss Cancer League focusing on the discourse around palliative care in Switzerland and a two-year project on institutional communication around COVID-19 funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation under their Special Call on Coronaviruses. Currrently, I am leading a four-year project exploring the existential dimension of self-management for individuals newly diagnosed with spinal cord injuries, also funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. In addition to these projects, I am engaged in various research endeavors aimed at understanding health behavior and its correlates. Since 2017, I have served as a consultant for the World Health Organization’s "Make Listening Safe" program. Furthermore, I represent Switzerland on the Advisory Committee of the International Association for Communication in Healthcare (EACH).I hold a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Lugano. My research interests span health behavior, health literacy, self-management, online health information seeking, health empowerment, eHealth, and mHealth. I am particularly passionate about studying the impact of limited digital literacy on health behaviors, such as cancer prevention and vaccination uptake, and developing strategies to address these challenges. My research journey has included significant stints at the Institute of Communication and Health at the University of Lugano, Harvard School of Public Health, and the Amsterdam School of Communication Research.
