The Lightburn Elderly Association Project (LEAP), operating since 1992, is a voluntary organisation and a registered charity (SC024196). LEAP aims to provide a range of services to people who are aged 50 years or over who may be lonely, isolated and/or experiencing health needs. Our services include a befriending services, a handyperson service and a range of educational, leisure and learning activities across the South Lanarkshire area. We also operate R:evolve Recycle, an environmental project which aims to reduce textile waste and consumption by providing a space for the community to swap and share though swap shops, clothing banks and workshops.The LEAP Hands On Project aims to help reduce loneliness and isolation, to encourage independence and improve wellbeing, to help to keep people safer in their homes for longer, and to promote active community participation and empowerment. The Hands On Project manages our Befriending and Handyperson Services. Our Befriending service offers one-to-one home visits providing short and long term support and companionship to older people who may be isolated or lonely. It can also include reconnecting older people with their community and provides and supports volunteer-led befriending groups.
