About Nikki Maw
As a Business Anthropologist I focus on workplace culture and understanding and designing the human experience. While working with organisations and businesses on bespoke workplace culture programmes, I am also currently delivering workshops on topics relevant to business owners and managers today, including:* ‘Unleashing the Potential of Gen Z’;* ‘AI Basics for Business: Where do I start?’;* 'Developing Your AI Strategy for Business'; * 'Leveraging the Power of AI for Business'; and* 'Understanding AI for Governance'.I am an innovative, organised and collaborative strategist, facilitator, evaluator and service designer with expertise in qualitative research, evaluation specific methodology, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, institution-wide reform, change management and culturally responsive pedagogies of relations. Service Design Consultant
I worked with a group of consultants providing management consulting services to tertiary education organisations, schools, businesses, economic development agencies and not for profit organisations. I supported organisations in the development of strategies, researched and evaluated customer experience and organisational processes, and facilitated workshops and discussions on current and future issues which resulted in co-creating visions of the future, activating innovation and embedding change.Key highlights:✔ Facilitated the co-design of a New Zealand university’s doctoral programme. Working with many doctoral students and staff members, we identified pain points, imagined a world class experience and designed an end to end system to meet future needs.✔ Conducted a scoping study for the employability of international students and developed an international student employability journey for regional economic development agencies.✔ Researched regional, national and global trends and challenges, conducted interviews and facilitated a regional think tank to provide recommendations and options for future economic growth in the health sector.✔ Researched and developed a work-based learning strategy for a New Zealand university. Identifying national and international examples, working with stakeholders including staff, employers and students to shape the direction of the strategy, and developed a work-based learning framework.✔ Facilitated the development of a secondary school strategic plan and associated annual plan. Elicited feedback and ideas from students and staff and facilitated a Working Group that consisted of the school’s senior leadership team.
Director Strategic Development
I shifted into a new role at UCOL, in which I developed, implemented and led programmes designed to improve teachers' attitudes, knowledge, skills, behaviour and practice. The intention was that these improvements would also have a positive impact on students' learning experiences and educational outcomes.Key highlights: ✔ Developed and implemented Te Atakura, a professional development programme for tertiary education based on the secondary school research & development programme Te Kotahitanga. Goals of the program are to reduce disparity between Māori and non-Māori students, improve educational experiences for all students and foster quality teaching by creating relationship-based teaching, learning and working environments.✔ Co-directed the High Performing Teaching Teams initiative, which supports quality teaching at UCOL. In this role, established three teaching awards, an Innovative Teaching Team Fund, a Professional Development Fund and a Quality Teaching Magazine. Initially the main focus of this programme was to train Academic Leaders to see themselves as leaders of learning rather than managers of resources.

Concurrent to my main role at UCOL, I was hand-picked by the Chief Executive to lead a project focused on quality education. This invitation resulted from my strong project management capabilities and passion for quality teaching.
Director, Strategic Policy & Research
I supported the institution's Deputy Chief Executive of Strategy in facilitating and maintaining relationships with the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), Ministry of Education, other tertiary institutions, community organisations and the city / district councils. Key highlights: ✔ Ensured that UCOL was up-to-date and prepared to respond to any policy changes or anticipated changes. Also ensured that the institution was in line with the government's Tertiary Education Strategy.✔ Supported the development of strategies for various departments and facilitated / wrote the institution's Māori Strategy and Youth Strategy.

I took on a part-time, project-based role conducting evaluations of tertiary institutions. Here, I evaluated each institution's capabilities in self-assessment and their educational performance.

After several years conducting educational research at Massey University, I started this research and educational consultancy. Here, I led large educational studies, inclusive of research proposal development, contract negotiation, budget planning and research team leadership. I also managed research and evaluation report development.Key projects: ✔ Induction and Mentoring Project, New Zealand Teachers' Council -- Managed four ongoing research & development projects and evaluation of all four projects. A two-year endeavor, this assignment involved supporting each of the contracted teams, ensuring quality and sitting on their various advisory boards.✔ Integrated Services Project, Child Youth & Family (NZ Social Services) -- Working in partnership with Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Special Education, took on a challenging, two-year project that required sensitivity toward participants and their families and a strong ability to successfully navigate complex content and uphold utmost ethics.
