Profile bio

About Nicolas Francart

I am an expert in environmental impact assessment and management, eager to leverage my experience with strategies for sustainable development. I currently work with facilitating local climate action, supporting municipalities in developing and implementing mitigation and adaptation strategies through multi-level governance and data-driven approaches. My toolbelt includes quantitative and qualitative methods, and I've worked with short term pragmatic solutions as well as long term paradigm shifts. We often improve only what we measure, which is why I work with environmental assessment methods such as LCA and data science to get a better understanding of impacts and how to mitigate them. But holistic shifts in how we take decisions, conduct business and introduce policies are also needed for sustainability transitions. I firmly believe that better decision processes, facilitation, futures thinking and imagination can make a world of difference! As an analyst in CONCITO's Cities of the Future program, I am responsible for developing an international portfolio of sustainability projects and partners. This includes sharing knowledge from projects such as DK2020 (climate action planning in Danish municipalities) with international stakeholders, learning from relevant projects in other countries, as well as building new projects and collaborations with international partners. I also works with assessing sustainability in urban development, for instance through the development of a monitoring system to follow up on municipal climate action plans. Finally, I contribute to the ClimatePol project, focusing on climate change adaptation in the Danish-German border region.
