Over the next few months, I am looking to take on more clients, refine my product and service, and ultimately help people get the sleep they need to perform at high levels as professionals, students, athletes and as people. SMA is a rare genetic condition that progressively impairs mobility and often leads to premature death.During my time as an intern, I developed many skills involved in project management that will serve me in my career path moving forward. Some key things I learned include: taking and implementing constructive feedback, being coachable and setting clear goals and expectations. My biggest takeaway, however, was the importance of asking clear and specific questions. As a project lead, I quickly understood that communication is a difficult task and skill that is unfortunately easier said than done. Wether it is a clarifying question or an open-ended though-provoking question, understanding who, what, where why and how is necessary for action. As I continue to craft my career story and return to school to finish my undergrad, I approach the future with confidence in my strengths and humility in knowing that I still have so much to learn. Coming from an academic and scientific background, stepping into the pharmaceutical side of the healthcare system opened my eyes to how little I understood about the field. I also quickly recognized that academic skills that I had once prided myself in had little value in a strategic analyst and marketing position. I had to quickly adapt to this new world, and did so with success. Business minds have always fascinated me, I was fortunate to have patient and wise mentors from various backgrounds to coach me into developing one of my own. I am certain that what I have gained from this internship will serve me in whatever path I choose wether as a physician, in academia, in the pharmaceutical space, or even in a field I have not yet discovered. I look forward to being able to work with others to serve and to have a positive impact on the healthcare system. Show less

Muay Thai, also known as the art of 8 limbs is striking martial art deeply rooted in Thai culture that utilizes hands, legs, knees and elbows as weapons.Though not a master by any means, my Kru (instructor in Thai) trusted that I had the level of expertise to teach beginner and intermediate classes for youth. At the start of this position, I had been training for almost a year and had rapidly moved from the fundamentals to introductory sparring. The discipline, hard work and commitment required to pursue Muay Thai was something I had never understood before. I believe the phrase "blood, sweat and tears" is in its fullest form while training martial arts. Going to class means pushing yourself beyond your limits, every single time. It means leaving a state of comfort to intentionally face healthy pain to achieve your goals. The martial art mentality is one that will serve me for the rest of my life. When offered this position, I did not hesitate to accept. Working with youth in a sport I had come to love and give back to the gym community was a perfect job for me at the time. Muay Thai genuinely changed my life and helped me become the man I am today and will continue to do so. So to get the opportunity to pass the skills and lessons I leaned to the next generation of martial artists is a privilege.I had the opportunity to work with youth from various backgrounds and abilities; with youth who wanted to be there and with some whose parents wanted them to be there; some with fire in their veins and some with little motivation. I saw pieces of myself in many of them, the good, and the areas that needed work. I wanted to be more than just a teacher but someone the youth could look up to as well, and took the time to understand who each of my students really were. It warms my heart when they tell me they miss me as their teacher. Show less

Going into the summer, I had never worked a labour job before and was shocked by the physical and mental demand of such work.Every day I came home tired, dirty, splattered with paint and ready to sleep. But a job well done was incredibly rewarding. My mentors were incredible at their work, but more than that, kind and patient people who valued teamwork.I built life-long, hard skills that will help me in the future wether it is in my own home or working for friends. But the level of hard work, attention to detail and work efficiency are soft skills that will be helpful in any future position, even in non-labor jobs. I have a newfound great respect for labourers who build our homes and cities, something I could've only truly come by from getting a taste of the hard work for myself. Show less

This summer, I worked in a cabin leader position, counselling and mentoring young teenagers at an overnight camp. My role included ensuring safety and fun while helping develop interpersonal skills and strong morals, being with youth 23 hours a day.I had the opportunity to teach and take care of kids from various backgrounds including youth with special needs (ASD, Down-syndrome and more) to help practice social skills. I helped in fostering a caring environment in which they can learn and grow in ways these young men may never have had the opportunity to experience.Being a camp counsellor is an exhausting but incredibly rewarding job. Being hands on 23 hours a day is not an easy task, especially after 5 weeks. I experienced joy beyond comprehension, but burnout I had never experienced before. I learned how to persist through exhaustion and rely on my coworkers for strength. But these sentiments were felt by everyone which aided in creating a community that forged bonds of friendship and brotherhood that will last me a lifetime. (Editing this in 2023, I currently live with friends I made at summer camp, a true blessing. I have also gone back to be a counsellor a few weeks for the summers after 2019 and got the privilege to see some of my campers become counsellors themselves and grow up to be phenomenal young men).Growing up as a camper then becoming a counsellor, I will always be indebted to this wonderful community that set me on the path to becoming a more well rounded and caring individual. I will always appreciate working with youth and helping forge the next generation of young men who will be our future, just as camp has done for me. Show less
