Nicolas Kramar’s professional path has been characterized by a double culture; in natural sciences with a master degree in earth sciences (alpine geology, stratigraphy, mapping, isotope geochemistry - University of Lausanne) and a PhD in geochemistry (radiochronology and crystallography - University of Lausanne and EPFL) and in Humanities with a research master degree in history, philosophy and didactics of sciences (Lyon I and ENS-Lyon). For more than 15 years, he has participated in numerous scientific mediation activities (events, training, teaching, books, and territorial valuations) and has taken part as a scholar to researches in sciences of education. Since 2013, he has been the director of the Musée de la nature du Valais. In this context, he has developed various projects related to the topic of the Anthropocene. The largest of these projects, the "Objectif Terre" exhibition has been awarded the 2016 Expo Prize of the Swiss Academy of Sciences and was the world's first exhibition on this theme produced by a natural history museum. He is now involved in international collaborations in museology on the topic of the Anthropocene in natural history museums. He's board member of ICOM-NATHIST, Chair of the ICOM-NATHIST Anthropocene Working Group and member of the Committee for Museum Definition, Prospects and Potentials (ICOM Define) who proposed the Museum definition voted in Prague in 2022.
