About Nicolas Krause

Hello! I'm a lot of different things, I've got a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, an Electronics Technologist Diploma from SAIT and I've completed an Electrical Engineering Degree from UVic. I love to learn and I'm great at communicating. I'm fluent in both French and English, with basic Spanish and I'm comfortable speaking in front of a group of people or writing an easily readable technical report. I like to sit at the intersection of theory and practice, taking designs I've created and making them real. I have been at various points, a rowing coach, a banker, a bicycle courier and a grocery store shelf stacker.

    A summer student position that was an extension of my first term. I developed firmware for the WatchDog 4 that implemented a link between a microcontroller and a discrete Bluetooth chip, allowing access to a set of serial console commands for a wireless user. In addition I implemented a simple serial terminal app for Android phones in Java that allowed the user to connect to the WatchDog 4 and send and receive the aforementioned serial commands. Finally, custom firmware to allow for IC and FCC radio certification testing was written and used to test the WatchDog 4 at a certification and testing center.

    A summer student position helping develop firmware for the Watchdog well site monitoring device. Wrote code in C, using the Crossworks IDE to implement connectivity between the main embedded processor and a standalone Bluetooth receiver. Additionally, wrote firmware for a low power ATtiny based pulse counter using Atmel Studio. An interrupt based pulse counter that communicated via I2C with a host CPU was designed and documented and was in testing phase at the completion of the summer term.
