My thesis aims to investigate the ecological consequences of climate change upon predator-prey interactions in arctic ecosystems.I am currently studying the behavioural ecology of arctic sandpipers (small shorebirds) during the incubation period. My work mostly consists in the management and analysis of a large database to answer interesting biological questions and test original hypothesis. I also participated in four fieldwork sessions in the Yamal peninsula (Siberia) and in the East coast of Greenland (Hochstetter Forland) during the first and second year of my PhD. During this PhD I often communicate on our results with a team composed by about thirty people from Russia, Canada, Alaska, Scandinavia, Netherlands, Germany and France. I also had the opportunity to present our work and research group in international and national colloquia. During my PhD I also supervised groups of student during practical lessons and I participate in the supervision of a MSc2 internship. If my work mainly focuses on birds, I also participated in the setup of various protocols to monitor arctic ecosystems (live or lethal trapping, camera trapping, bird ringing …) and got involved in the analysis of diverse type of data (e.g. GPS data to study fox habitat utilization). Thus, during my PhD I also developed my writing skills through a diversity of exercises (international article for peer review, progress reports for funders, short communication for the team, and the final manuscript). All those skills will surely be important to realize my future aims.

Intitulé : Etude des déterminants de la préférence thermique chez la drosophiles (Drosophila melanogaster) Encadrement : Sylvain Pincebourde (Université de Tours) et Hervé Colinet (Université de Rennes). Au cours de ce stage, nous avons mis en place un élevage de drosophiles dans des étuves de température différente, avec plusieurs souches. Nous voulions étudié l'influence des conditions thermiques subies par les larves au cours de leur développement, sur la préférence thermiques des larves au stade 3 et au stade imaginal. Nous avons également créé de toute pièce un gradient thermique et un système d'enregistrement vidéo. La seconde partie de ce stage reposait sur la gestion des données et leur analyse pour répondre à nos questions de recherche.

Research Internship of 5 months in the "Insect Ecology Lab" at the Zoology Department of UNE. With a focus on respirometry techniques as a means of assessing the response of insects to climate change (Formicidae family).This project has consisted of self run lab based experiments, as part of a larger project undertaken by Nigel Andrew (a well known entomologist in the field).

Internship divided in 3 periods of a couple of weeks in a Dairy Farm learning how to manage an familial agricultural business in France.
