Nicolas Pascal is the executive director and founder of Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas (BAMPA), a social enterprise that bridges the marine conservation financing gap through innovative, blue economy reef-positive solutions. With a PhD in Marine Sciences and over 30 years of global experience, Nicolas is a recognized expert and leader in the field of coral reef ecosystem services valuation and management.Under his vision and guidance, BAMPA works with governments and local partners to build and manage over 60 Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Indonesia, Philippines, and Tanzania, covering 1.3 million hectares of high-biodiverse coral reefs and benefiting more than 20,000 coastal community members. Nicolas and his team are driven by the mission of regenerating coral reef biodiversity, protecting endangered species, and improving livelihoods through sustainable and profitable activities in and around the MPAs. Nicolas is also an associate researcher at CRIOBE (CNRS/EPHE) and a consultant environmental economist for coral reefs. He has published multiple papers and reports on the economic, social, and environmental impacts of coral reef conservation and finance.
