Nicolas Sursock has lived in Paris, France for 25 years, and was born in Beirut, Lebanon (1980). In 1983, his parents went to France, and Nicolas was educated there (EFREI, Telecom ParisTech). Often he spends his time between France, Lebanon, and Switzerland with the occasional trip far away like Los Angeles in 1998 where he studied astronomy. Nicolas is a fan of Apple. He wants to learn Swift and Python after studying C++ and Matlab as his first languages. An enthusiast of object-oriented programming, he also knows how to program in Java. During his work, he also had to deal with SQL databases, XML files, MQSeries messaging, and Unix shell programming. Nicolas also learned Node, Express, Vue, React, Alpine, and Tailwind. He is learning Svelte at the moment. In 2017, Nicolas started a music blog (WordPress and then Ghost). For 3 years, he programmed in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to customize his website. Still, he comes back to his first love which is computers and music. Frustrated with CMSes, he learned webdev to create his own my website from scratch. In 2003, during his final internship, Nicolas successfully ported a sound classification tool from Matlab to C++ at IRCAM. The feature extraction module was translated. Shortly after, Nicolas worked in banking for 7 years and was able to leverage his object-oriented programming skills to do the work. In 2013, he had a short stint at a video company where he used FFmpeg. Nicolas’s values include trust, respect, curiosity, honesty, adaptability, and humor. He believes values can create a vision of the future and prevent nightmares at work. During his career, he wasn’t afraid to work extra hours to meet deadlines and stay on budget. Outside of work, Nicolas likes to hang out in coffee shops, read a book, watch a movie or a documentary, play a game on the computer. You will also meet Nicolas in a restaurant eating his favorite Mediterranean dishes like pasta or Lebanese food. During his career, Nicolas noticed how music touched the souls of people. For example, a song by Frank Zappa, Cosmik Debris tells the story of a psychic guru who can predict the future—prices will fluctuate and someone will fail. Talk about taking a risk in life!

Musician, BloggerSelf-Employed Sep 2013 - PresentParis And BeirutSince 2013, I based my life on my musical culture to thrive and my passion for computer science to communicate. I tried to find innovative ways to think about society, astronomy, wellness, and diverse subjects. I wanted to find the key to space travels, write about any topics inspired by jazz, blues, soul, rock, funk, and electronic music, and get more experience in the music business (djing, songwriting, performing, jamming, etc...).

Software EngineerZnappit May 2013 - Aug 2013Paris, Île-De-France, FranceZnappit is a simple and funny way to create videos with your friends, and only for them. Create groups, invite your friends, and all the videos you share will automatically contribute to your collaborative group video. As a developer, I had to automate the process of fetching individual videos and create the summary (the collaborative version). Using FFmpeg, I created Unix scripts that manipulated the videos and created the summary.

They meet a wide range of digital needs thanks to a comprehensive and international ecosystem of expertise. As a consultant, I had to meet the clients' needs and provide my expertise in Murex. For 7 years, I have worked for 2 clients (BNP Paribas and Calyon) in their back and middle office. At BNP, I programmed several monitoring interfaces in Java to deal with fixings and payments. At Calyon, I worked on several VaR (value at risk) reports and managed stress tests. -
InternIrcam May 2003 - Oct 2003Paris, Île-De-France, FranceIRCAM (Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music) is a French institute dedicated to the research of music and sound, especially in the fields of avant-garde and electro-acoustical art music. It is situated next to and is organisationally linked with the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Several concepts for electronic music and audio processing have emerged at IRCAM (FM synthesis, Max/MSP). Many of the techniques associated with spectralism were made practical by technological contributions at IRCAM. IRCAM has played an instrumental role in developing programs for visualization of musical form with the creation of OpenMusic, a Lisp-based visual programming language. As an intern, I had to port a Matlab sound classification tool in C++ to be used by commercial programs. I analyzed the code written by my predecessor, continued the work of translation and ensured the quality of the port using MEX files.
