Profile bio

About Nicolas Desroches

From scrawled creative chapters to strategic reports predicting global trends, my writing has changed throughout my life. Yet along the way, one thing has always remained true: I love telling stories. Stories that rely on data to drive insights and shape strategy. Stories that help decision makers and executives grow their businesses. Stories that engage with our communities and amplify their successes. And, of course, stories about magic.Over the past 10 years, I've worked as a technical writer and strategic communicator with clients across Canada. I've explained R&D projects focused on quantum encryption, outlined marketing strategies for educational video games, and pitched multi-million dollar business expansions. For the past two years, I've deeply explored the world of international education, identifying global data trends that help explain shifts in student demand, government policies, and institutional pressures. My work has been the backbone of presentations to business leaders across Canada and has helped launch strategic cross-sector partnerships.Outside of work, I've held senior volunteer roles with a national youth-serving organization. I've developed communication and engagement strategies for connecting with volunteers and the communities they serve, and I've helped them shout about their successes from the rooftops. As regional president, I guided local organizations throughout the pandemic, providing support and stability through substantial change management. While I'm taking a break from my volunteering at the moment to recharge, I'm still building communities in my free time, even if they are much smaller (GMing in a home-brewed TTRPG world). It can't all be writing though: I've also got a great skill set for working with and analyzing data as well as managing projects from ideation to post-execution review. I'm also deeply passionate about mentoring, building teams, and driving accountability. If you've got an interesting project and want my insight on communications strategy, or if you want to chat about any and all things writing, feel free to connect with me here!

Listed skills include Program Management, Creative Writing, Speech Writing, Copy Editing, and 60 others.
