I am a postdoctoral fellow at Dr. Andrea Llera´s lab (Instituto Leloir). I am working on the characterization of the immunological profile of Langerhans Cells Histiocytosis (LCH) affected pediatric patients. LCH is considered by many researchers as a neoplasic disease; however, in some patients it also can be treated as an autoimmune-like disease (or an inflammatory disorder). The aim of this study is to understand the immune phenotype and cellular lineage of the so called-histiocytes, so as to find molecular markers that might predict not only the extent of the disease (affected organs), but also to predict whether patients might be cured after the LCH-III/IV treatment or they might suffer further LCH reactivations. Furthermore, immunological mediators might be detected so as to be considered as molecular targets, susceptible of immune and targeted therapies, besides BRAFV600E.
