Research and write about distributed consensus networks; some call them block chains, others cryptocurrencies. I've spent most of my time looking at bitcoin mining, lightning network, and protocol development. I've also spent some meaningful time looking at/working with Ethereum, DAOs and DeFi.Before going down the rabbit hole, I interviewed ~fifty children a day who had been detained by homeland security for crossing the border without a valid visa. My job was to explain to explain how the federal immigration system impacts their rights and proceed to screen them for potential legal relief and help represent them in court. Many of these children’s families had mortgaged their homes to pay smugglers to transport them across the American border--social and economic conditions force families to take extreme measures to protect their children. My family is from Argentina, and I spent 2020 studying IT engineering at the University of Buenos Aires while continuing to working with a large bitcoin mining pool. When I got to Argentina the exchange rate was at seventy pesos to the dollar; when I left it was at $190. Half of people’s yearly paychecks were rendered worthless. I have seen panicked grocers changing prices multiple times a day, bank runs, and widespread civil pandemonium as a result. I use bitcoin as a remittance platform monthly to transfer money so that my grandparents in Argentina can cover their medical bills. In college, my culminating academic experience was on the philosophy of education: comparing learning/teaching processes using a democratic, dialectical, and experiential methods that attempt to more effectively communicate knowledge. I’ve spent the last five years working across the blockchain industry writing materials for developers and the public as to how these technologies work and why they are important.
